I, Daniel Blake- Blog Task

Film Industry: I, Daniel Blake

1) Independent films have less budget to produce their films but turns out to be successful and earns lots of money from the box office. It's also not been promoted to the audience except just showing the trailer. They are also not financially supported with the film so they have to spend their budget wisely. It is critically different from Hollywood blockbuster movies because they have a huge budget, they are financally supported and shown to all around the world but sometimes, it dosen't make a big hit.

2)  I Daniel Blake is about a 56 year old man who has got an heart attack and is now ill and cannot get a job. He later encounters a single mother who finds out she is living with the homeless. Daniel Blake then starts a strike saying to give all homeless people free shelters to the government. He fights for pride and dignity feeling proud.

3) Ken Loach is the director of I, Daniel Blake and It's important to know that because He never wanted to earn lots of money from making films, he wanted to make films to spread the word of feeling proud and having your dignity.

4)
  • Loach appeared on BBC Question Time to talk on issue giving the film extra credibility
  • Film was premiered not in London, but Newcastle (where the film is set) to gain local support.
  • ‘I, Daniel Blake’ was projected onto the Houses of Parliament ('guerrilla marketing') and in various cities

5) Used trailers and posters to create a buzz for the audience

6) The Budget for I, Daniel Blake was £2 milion pounds but it made around £11 Million pounds in the box office

7) Independant films can't compete with the budget but it can compete with the success of the film.

8) BBFC and the age rating was rated 15

9) Its contributed with political statements and with own personal opinions

10) I feel that the film was a complete success. I say this because not only the movie has made a good gross profit of £11 million pounds, Ken Loach didn't care, Instead he wanted to spread the message about being political and fighting for your rights. All Ken Loach ever wanted for this ovie was to get people inspired to have the confidence to fight back.
