Advertising CSP 2: Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert:

Galaxy 'Chauffeur' advert: blog tasks

1) What key conventions of TV advertising can you find in the Galaxy advert?

- There is a famous actor in the advert is pretty and popular, a famous luxury car and the product itself

2) What is the key message the Galaxy advert is communicating about its chocolate? The slogan for the advert will help you with this question.

- The Advert is trying to say that their chocolate is better than any other chocolate that exists

3) Who is Audrey Hepburn and why did Galaxy select Audrey Hepburn for this advert?

- Audrey is a famous Hollywood actor in the 1950s and galaxy chose her because it adds more of fame in the advert and also adds in the nostalgia in the advert as it is linked to Italy (a place full of romance).

4) What is intertextuality?

-  Intertextuality: When one media text refers to or suggests another media text

5) What Audrey Hepburn films are suggested in this advert and how is this effect created (e.g. mise-en-scene - CLAMPS: costume, lighting, actors, make-up, props, setting)?

- The costume is suggested as it is linked to a normal girl being saved by a hero but she is the main character. the setting is also suggested because the place is in Italy where is creates a scene of romance and heroine saving.

6) Which of Propp's character types are can be found in the advert and how do they change? (Note: just choose two or three character types that are definitely used in the advert - it does not use all seven).

-  I saw the hero and heroine. They change the adverts story by showing the heroine as the main character getting saved and the hero who is hero who is the secondary character.

7) How does the advert's narrative (story) follow Todorov's theory of equilibrium?

-  It shows this theory when in the beginning of the ad, everything is calm and balanced  but then we see the driver crashed into the sales man which creates a problem. The heroine is inside the bus waiting to eat her chocolate but then the hero comes to the rescue to come save the heroine from the disaster. So she gets saved from the hero, Thanking him and eating her chocolate with relief.

8) What representation of celebrity can be found in this advert? Think about how Audrey Hepburn is presented.

- Audrey is presented as a pretty, helpless heroine waiting to be saved

9) What representations of gender can you find in this advert?

- I can find that there is no gender equalitiues in the ad is it is pretty much how you would expect in a saving mission

10) How are stereotypes subverted at the end of the Galaxy advert to reflect modern social and cultural contexts?

- Although there were lots of stereotypes in the ad, it will state that their chocolate is better than anyone
