Create a new blogpost called 'His Dark Materials: Audience and Industries blog tasks' and answer the following questions:

Audience

1) Read this audience rating guide for His Dark Materials. Based on the screening and this article, who do you think the target audience is for His Dark Materials and why? What about psychographic groups? You can revise Pyschographics here.

- I think that the target audience is for people who like fantasy such as time travelling etc. For psychographic groups, i feel like they would be related to science fiction because it does have some science fiction in the episodes

2) What audience pleasures are offered by His Dark Materials - The City of Magpies? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.

Personal Identity: travelers, imagration

Personal Relationships: Friends, co-operates, enemies

Diversion (Escapism): travelling to other windows

3) Thinking of the 3 Vs audience pleasures (Visceral, Vicarious and Voyeuristic pleasures), which of these can be applied to His Dark Materials? Refer to specific scenes or moments in the episode to explain your answer.

- its defenietly vicarious because it links to travelling through different worlds, for example in the second episode, will and lyra go through another window where it goes to will world (i think) and it represents they don't have a care in the world if they mess up the timeline or not

4) How did fans react to Season 2 of His Dark Materials? What about critic reviews? You can find some possible answers for this in this BBC website article on the critical reception for His Dark Materials and watch the fan reaction video above.

- they were very shocked, happy and overjoyed. the critic reviews were immaculate aswell. most people reacted to the season 2 trailer on youtube and they seemed very gassed about it

5) What might be some of the preferred and oppositional readings for His Dark Materials? Why did some fans love it? Why have other people criticised it?

Industries

1) Which companies produced this His Dark Materials series?

-  Bad Wold and new line productions

2) What were the UK viewing figures for A City of Magpies? How did this compare to season 1 of His Dark Materials?

- it seemed like most of the audience were happy with what they had experienced, most left good reviews but harsh critics left out reviews that could impact they rest of his dark materials. compared to season 1,that got the most views and engagement rather than season 2

3) What was American network HBO's role in making His Dark Materials and why is this important? Look at the notes above for more on this.

-their role was to make international distribution and this was important because that was how BBC got the fans to watch the show, it is a way to promote the show basically

4) What famous stars are in His Dark Materials and why do you think they were selected for the show? Watch the Comic Con panel video in the notes above to see the stars talking about the show

- we got many famous people such as dafne keen playing as lyra and amir willson who is playing as will, and the reason why I think they got selected is because they fit in the perfect role and behavior and appearance for the character

5) Who are Bad Wolf and what do they produce?

a television production company founded by Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter in 2015 based in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The company is responsible for the television series The Night Of, Beddgelert, A Discovery of Witches, His Dark Materials and the current era of Doctor Who.

Comparison: Doctor Who - An Unearthly Child and His Dark Materials - The City of Magpies

1) How are the technical conventions different between 1963 Doctor Who and 2020 His Dark Materials (e.g. camerawork, editing, sound and mise-en-scene)?

- in the old times for doctor who, they had different camera quality, different story and different people due to separating people for only whites and not mixed. and now in 2017 movies and further, you get to see the many mixed actors in movies and they are most likely to be famous than the white actors.

2) What similarities and differences are there between Doctor Who and His Dark Materials in terms of genre and narrative?

- for genre is don't see much of a difference because it is most likely about travelling, but for narrative, I'm not so sure

3) How are representations of people, places and groups similar or different in the two shows?

- for representations, they can be show in different and various ways but for the s=two show, they are shown to be a meaning for the show to to see whether people will like it or not. for example, in people, back in the days you wouldn't;t see and mixed people in movies or tv but now in this era, its is normal to see mixed people online and in movies. in my perspective, I say that both his dark materials and doctor who are somewhat similar
