OSP: Language and Representation blog tasks

Language

1) Make two lists - one of website conventions used on Marcus Rashford and Kim Kardashian's official website and one of social media conventions found on their Instagram pages.

- MR -     Logo, Brand, multimedia on websites and menu

-KK - Logo, Brand and Menu

2) How does Marcus Rashford's website and social media promote his brand? Give at least three examples of different pages / posts / images from his website or social media

- Posting stories , documentaries and twitter posts.

3) How does Kim Kardashian's website and social media promote her brand? Give at least three examples of different pages / posts / images from her brand websites or social media.

- Stories, Photoshoots on magazines and her shows on Disney+ "The Kardashians"

4) How does Marcus Rashford's online presence use the narrative of his childhood upbringing to create a positive brand identity?

- He talks about how his mum works two jobs to provide for Marcus and he was very poor back then. After he got his career, he felt like giving back so he decided to make uk have free school lunches. This emphasises Rashford's generosity and hope he is not letting fame be stingy with his money because he know he was once in that position and though t no kid should go hungry

5) How does Kim Kardashian's website and social media promote other media products or websites using the Kardashian brand (e.g. Keeping Up With The Kardashians TV show)?

- Kim uses her popularity to promote small businesses such as KKW Beauty. They way she does id first doing a photo shoot on the product it self. Kim then does a review on the product and tells everyone that it is a really good product and that they should buy it immediately. She will sometimes say that it is limited edition to encourage others more to buy it. And that is how she gets her income.

Representations

1) How does Marcus Rashford use different aspects of mise-en-scene (e.g. clothes/costume/ settings/locations) to create representations of himself on his website and social media?

- he uses mise-en-scene such as costume and setting to picture they way he is presented. Some fans think he is mostly presented as a politician more than as a footballer. He first uses dark clothes such as a black suit to create the them of maturity and dominance. He also had a black background which also emphasised him as a politician. Later in the year, many fans complained about him taking his politics more seriously than his football career. So MR decided to change his whole aspect into football. If you go to his website, you would just see multi media pictures of MR

2) What examples can you find of website pages, social media posts or aspects of his brand that create a positive representation of Marcus Rashford? You may wish to comment on his discussion of family or his campaigns - his page on the FareShare campaign website may help with this question.

- One positive representation is when a street artist made a picture of him on a brick wall and MR tweeted about this saying, "How he was so grateful and fond of the picture, he is also glad he is seen as someone to look up to". This presents a positive correlation for Marcus rashford because this will inspire people to look up to MR even more and see him as a winning person

3) How does Marcus Rashford's online presence challenge stereotypes? Think about gender (masculinity), race/ethnicity, social class or football here.  During the erous in 2020, Marcus missed a penalty which has caused racial hate against him, which is unfair due to the rates and also being it unexpected. He has also given hate when he was playing poorly in the euros. This shows that the online presence of Marcus rashford can suddenly cause his downfall.

4)  What representation of celebrity is created by Kim Kardashian's website and social media? How are audience encouraged to view celebrity?

Kim Kardashian is mostly presented as a money maker, wanted to make money ever since she was a little girl. Even though she has gained that fame, some people have brought it down. For example, she once has a boyfriend that had a sexual scene and was all caught on tape which has suddenly been leaked. This caused her downfall because it was most unexpected and I guess her fans didn.t like that so they decided to unfollow her, some of her brands even cut her off and I think one contract has been blew off because the company thought it was inappropriate of her to post the sex tape online even though she didn't.

5) What gender stereotypes are reinforced or challenged in Kim Kardashian's online presence?

KK's online performance has caused her to gain gender stereotypes. For example, Kim has mostly endorsed on brand that mainly involve makeup, beauty, fashion etc. This is what gained the stereotypes. The audience think that all older women think they inly like to put on make up and fancy clothes thinking it's what they want to do everyday. People also think that it is a way of attracting men into falling into their beauty. This makes women see they are just people who have no purpose because people think all they want to do is shop and shop and etc. This challenges KK because she has the most followers on instgarm meaning at least 75% of her followers must be women.
